Fishing from the ship or one of our purposes built fishing skiffs
for a myriad of fantastic species. Snorkel the coral reefs, breath
hold dive for Cray fish, an absolute delicacy for our table, explore
secluded uninhibited white sand coconut palm fringed island beaches
or just lay around relaxing in a sunlounge on the upper deck or
on a tropical island. Bird watching, beach coaming, exploring,
turtle and dugong watching, swimming, fishing and cultural interactions
we will have with the local people makes for a wonderful relaxed
diverse holiday on frontier very very few people have visited before.

You will quickly slip into Island time where nothing is a problem
and the pace is wound down to a casual and relaxed feeling of well
being unique to the region of the Torres Strait. The Torres Straits. The narrow passage of water separating
the Australian mainland to the south, from Papua New Guinea in the
north and the Coral sea and Pacific Ocean to the east and the Arafura
sea and Indian ocean to the west. Ten degrees south of the Equator,
this is an as yet undiscovered tropical island paradise of Australia,
the safest place in the world.

Over 40 islands, most deserted, some inhabited by the gentile Melanesian
Torres Strait islander people. Once fearsome head hunters, their
culture and history, for you to experience. We are welcome to visit
them in their villages where you will be guided to, and explained
the significance of the various points of historical and cultural
significance. The people of the Torres Strait are warm and friendly
and English speaking, we cruises their waters and visit their islands
with their permission.
This is a truly magnificent weeks holiday that can be as relaxed
or as action packed as you choose. We take you on a 200 nautical
mile loop through one of the frontiers of world tourist travel,
passing scores of islands, visiting many, some with villages and
some uninhabited. Most every day is at a different location, every
night in a calm anchorage.
Travelling is done from early in the morning while you sleep until
around 9 or10 am where after breakfast you embark on yet another

the west coast of Cape York Peninsula in the nineties these trips

Wednesday 11am: Depart Cairns, Aero Tropics twin turbine
Metro aircraft, scenic flight over the rainforests of Cape York
and Great Barrier Reef. Arrive Cape York. Collected and transferred
to the 19m (62') brand new 4+ star powered catamaran. for an immediate
departure to Cape York via Possession Island where Captain Cook
raised the flag of discovery in 1770 before he left the east coast
of Australia. The afternoon we proceed to the tip of Cape York where
we will stand on the very northern most point of the Australian
mainland. OVERNIGHT CAPE YORK ANCHORAGE.Thursday 6am: Vessel departs for Summerset (1.5 hr trip)
in the Albany pass for a guided tour of the ruins of Queenslands
attempt at building a trading port to rival Singapore in the late
1800's Tides permitting we will show you Aboriginal cave paintings
depicting English sailing ships of discovery, these are seen by
very few people . From here we proceed to Mt Adoplhus island passing
over, and viewing the wreck of the Quetta, Queenslands most tragic
and historic ship wreck in 1911 on the sonar and 2 televisions in
the main saloon and rear deck (a big fish is normally always caught
as we pass over also) to arrive early in the afternoon. Swimming,
fishing, beach coaming, bird watching (pale white eye, mangrove
robyn and mangrove golden whistler are the exotics here) OVERNIGHT
MT. ADULPHUS ISLAND.
Friday 6am: Vessel departs for Coconut Island (Poruma I)
(3 hr) scenic trip fishing. Island tour on foot with the local islanders,
fishing, swimming etc. Afternoon departure to one of many uninhabited
coral cay islands.(1.5 hours) OVERNIGHT UNINHABATED ISLAND.
Saturday: Taken ashore for a full or ½ day, picnic
lunch ashore ,or back to the ship. Swimming, snorkelling, fishing,
cray fish diving, exploring, beach coaming, shell collecting or
just laying around. Or travel to yet another deserted island or
coral reef fishing diving etc in our tender skiff "Ocean Gem".
This is a free day, you now know what is available and you can choose
what you would like to do, fish, swim, snorkel or just kick back,
relax and enjoy the Torres Strait.Sunday 5am: Vessel departs for Saibai Island (6 hr) scenic
trip fishing along the way. Arriving Saibai before lunch. Tour of
Saibai by the local islanders and trading with the people of New
Guinea (Saibai is only 1.5 miles from the coast of New Guinea and
you can see it. There are cross border trading agreements in place,
we can not go there, but they can come to us on Saibai) The New
Guinea people know we are coming they will be on Saibai with there
wares to sell to us, beautiful carvings, drums, bows, and woven
string bags and mats etc. OVERNIGHT SAIBAI ISLAND.Monday 5am: Vessel departs for Badu island (5 hrs) fishing
along the way. Arriving Badu where you will be taken on a historical
and cultural tour of the island by the local Torres strait islander
community. Here we will give to the ladies of the village any surplus
fish we have caught and frozen from the past 2 days. OVERNIGHT BADU
ISLAND early morning TRAVEL TO THURSDAY ISLAND (4 hours).Tuesday 9am: Collected and taken on a tour of Thursday Island,
the economic, business and shopping centre of the Torres Strait
(population 2500). Plenty of free time for shopping, postcards telephone
and banking services. Afternoon tour of Historic Horn island. OVERNIGHT
TRAVEL BACK TO CAPE YORK (2 hours).Wednesday: Free time at Seisia the beautiful mainland Torres
Strait Islander village. You are delivered back to the airport where
Aero Tropics will have you back to Cairns around 2.45pm to connect
with late flights to the southern capitals if you required.
Once a trip has 4 bookings it becomes a confirmed departure. Single
places can be booked through to bookings of 12 and exclusive sole
charter for less than 12 available.
